Run-day Instructions

 

Directions

The Purisima Creek Redwoods Trail Run will be held on Saturday, February 7th.  The events will start as follows:

14 Km - 9:30 a.m.

33 Km - 9:00 a.m.

50 Km - 8:30 a.m.

The park opens at 8:00 a.m. Please arrive 30 minutes before the start of your event.  To reach the Huddart County Park entrance, please click on this Map for driving directions.   The park entrance fee is $5 per vehicle.  The start/finish will be located at the Oak picnic area

 

Message Board 

The purpose of this online Message Board is to provide a forum for PCTR runners to communicate with fellow runners and share information (i.e., rides to PCTR events, lodging requests, and favorite local restaurants).

 

Course

The course will be marked with ribbon approximately every 200 meters and color coded as follows:

14 Km - White (purple on the map for visibility)

33 Km - Pink

50 Km - Pink and Green Loops

There will be at least two blue-striped ribbons before a turn in the course.  The blue-striped ribbons will be placed before and on the same side as the required turn.  After you complete the turn, there will be white, pink, and/or green ribbons indicating the correct route.

The blue-striped "turn signal" ribbon can be as helpful in its absence as it is when it's present.  Too often, ribbons are either taken or redirected down the wrong path.   Until the ribbon-moving-vandals figure out that they need to pair a blue-striped ribbon with the solid ones they move, just don't turn unless you see those stripes! 

If you don't see your respective ribbon for 3-4 minutes, you are off course.  One of the few rules of trail running is that, if you get off course, you must retrace your path until you find where you left the course and then continue along the marked course.  Failure to follow this rule may result in disqualification even though you may have traveled a greater distance than the official course. 

The 50 Km course follows pink ribbons until the 2nd aid station at 17 kilometers.  Then, 50 Km runners complete an 11 kilometer, clockwise loop marked with green ribbons and return to the same aid station.  Finally, after returning to the finish area at 44.5 kilometers, 50 Km runners do a 5.5 kilometer loop marked with green ribbons.

No dogs allowed in the park.

Elevation Gain:

14 Km - 1,710 ft.

33 Km - 4,270 ft.

50 Km - 6,410 ft.

Aid Stations

Fully-stocked aid stations every 7 - 11 kilometers. You can expect fresh fruit, salty snacks, assorted candy, boiled potatoes & salt, water, and Conquest sports drink.  However, it is highly recommended that runners carry at least 20 oz. of water between aid stations.

Post-Run Activities

There will be hot soup and chili at the finish line.

T-shirts will be given to all finishers.  While awards are given to the first female and male finishers, PCTR events are designed to be non-competitive, encourage the enjoyment or trail running, and emphasize personal achievement.

will be the official event photographer.  Photos should be available about a week following the event.

 

Check-in
