Welcome to the Mt Diablo Trail Run. Pacific Coast Trail Runs is proud to bring back this classic in PCTR lore. For those seeking the ultimate challenge in elevation gain, then this event is for you. Enjoy ever-changing views and terrain on "Devil Mountain" with sweeping panoramas from the summit and highest point in the Bay Area. On a clear day, you may be blessed with heavenly views for hundreds of miles of California landscape. The trail cuts through meadow-lands to sedimentary rock formations carved out by water and wind, to the rocky summit. For those entering the 50K, you will get to enjoy the journey to Rock City and two different ascents of Mt Diablo and 8,500 feet of elevation gain. We have purposely picked the summertime, thus making the ultimate mountain challenge in the east bay and perfect for heat training for longer distance events you have later in the summer.

All entrants will receive a race shirt of the size and style they choose if registered by November 9th. At check-out you will have a choice between a Sport-Tek "tech shirt" or Next Level branded "cotton blend shirt". All participants will be able to enjoy the post race bbq with the one ticket provided with entry. BBQ Starts at 10:30am. Purchase additional tickets for friends and family $10 at check out. Protein and vegetarian options are provided. Last year we hosted an amazing Fajita and Soup Bar.

Event Check In/Bibs:

Friday June 2nd from 4-7pm.

If you pick up your bib and shirt but do not feel like running on Saturday Morning, you do need to let us know for safety reasons. Search and Rescue is very expensive and we would not like to send you the bill for not letting us know you didn’t start the event.

Race Day Check-In: 6:45am - 8:15am: All runners are required to check-in regardless of whether you picked up your bib number the night before.

Parking Alert:

Parking is $6. Please do your best to bring exact change to allow for expedient entry for all. Please note that there is one lane in and one lane out of the parking area. We have staggered the start times to allow for traffic back-up getting into start/finish location.

Woof Alert:

WE LOVE DOGS! They are allowed at the start/finish area and nearby beach. However, no dogs are allowed to compete with you during the event. Please do not leave your dog in the car or we will have the Supervising Ranger find it a temporary home while you finish your race.


50K - Pacers (only one permitted the entire event) are allowed in the 50K and can join their runner only at Rock City A/S.
28K - Pacers or Companions are not allowed in other distances unless permission is granted from Race Director.
1/2 Marathon - Pacers or Companions are not allowed in other distances unless permission is granted from Race Director.
10K - Pacers or Companions are not allowed in other distances unless permission is granted from Race Director.

Safety is our number one priority and want you to get home to your loved ones. Second is the amount of fun you have, so make it count.

Drop Bags

Runners in the 50 km may leave a drop bag at Rock City Aid Station. All runners may leave drop bags at the Finish Area of Mitchell Canyon Start/Finish area with any personal needs. Please note we will provide an area and do our best to safe guard them. We will not be responsible for the loss of personal items due to theft or misplacement.

Time Limit:

There is a 9 hour time limit for the 50km run. There is a 1:30pm cutoff time for starting the 20km loop.

Aid Stations:

We will provide a variety of fresh fruit, sweet & salty snacks, electrolytes sports drink, cola, ginger ale and water. THIS EVENT WILL FEATURE HIGH TEMPERATURES AND ALL ENTRANTS IN THE 50K distance will be required to have a hand-held bottle or hydration pack when they leave Rock City Aid Station. It is highly recommended that ALL runners carry at least 20 oz. of water between aid stations.


All finishers will receive a finishers medal similar to the ones in the above photo. These are called woodalions and made of recycled wood. These are made by the same company that makes the finishers medals for the Boston Marathon.

50K Finishers will receive a commemorative "Ultra Marathon" coaster from the event.

Top 3 Winners:
Top 3 Male & Female Overall Winners in each distance will win dollar value race credit for future Pacific Coast Trail Runs events.

1st Place - $75 race credit towards future 2017 PCTR Race
2nd Place - $50 race credit towards future 2017 PCTR Race
3rd Place - $25 race credit towards future 2017 PCTR Race

Age Group Awards:
Each age group winner will receive a special 2017 Age Group Medal. Age Group Award Winners include Top 3 Male & Female in each of the following age group categories:

  • Add $10 if registering after March 1, 2017
    Add $20 if registering after April 1, 2017
