Get ready for a memorable California trail running experience at the Angel Island Trail Run on July 5, 2024. Offering distances from 8km to 50km, this event is perfect for both beginners and experienced ultra-runners. Angel Island State Park provides a backdrop with sweeping views of San Francisco, Marin County, and the Golden Gate Bridge. With hilly, forested trails circling the island, you’ll find beauty and challenge in every kilometer.

Overview

The race begins at Ayala Cove, where participants will embark on a journey around the island’s varied terrain. The course takes runners through grassy fields, dense forests, and the challenging ascent of Mount Livermore, which offers panoramic views of the entire Bay Area. 

Elevation Gains for Each Distance:

  • 8km — 810 feet
  • 16km — 1,380 feet
  • 25km — 2,035 feet
  • 50km — 4,070 feet

Race Day

Aid stations are placed every 8-9 kilometers and stocked with fresh fruit, salty snacks, candy, boiled potatoes, water, and Clif Shot Electrolyte sports drinks. It is recommended that runners carry at least 20 ounces of water between aid stations for proper hydration. Packet pick-up begins at 7:00 a.m. at the Tiburon Ferry dock, and runners must catch the 7:50 a.m. ferry to the island. 

Please note that the ferry ride costs $14 and is not included in the race entry fee. Ferries return hourly at 20 minutes past the hour.

The event has an 8-hour time limit for the 50km race, with a 6-hour and 30-minute cut-off at the 42km mark. After the race, runners are invited to enjoy a post-run picnic featuring soup and chili, perfect for refueling after a challenging day on the trails.

Awards and Entry Information

All pre-registered runners will receive a custom-designed event T-shirt, and awards will be given to the top male and female finishers. For 50km participants, a custom event coaster will be awarded to all who complete the race. Additionally, this event is part of the PCTR Race Series, where points are awarded to the top 8 finishers in each age group. Frequent runners who have participated in at least three PCTR events this year will receive a 5% discount on future races and merchandise.
